Welcome to Dolphins Class page!

Welcome back to Term 5! I hope you all had a wonderful Easter holiday and enjoyed the lovely weather. This term looks set to be a good one, our history topic will be 'The Anglo Saxons' and we have lots of learning to look forward to, including a trip to Dover Museum.

Multiplication Tables Check

This term, we will really be focussing on the speed of recall for our times tables in preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check in June. I will be sending a letter out soon explaining the check and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you so much for your support with times tables this year, it is much appreciated and I can really see the positive impact that it is having in all areas of maths.

Regular times tables and spelling practise, as well as reading, is part of the homework expectation.

Reading Books

The children will have a reading book and record that goes to and from school as usual. The expectation is that children read at home at least three times per week and we will start to focus more on comprehension and understanding of vocabulary, as well as reading and decoding. If you could sign their reading record to let us know that they have read to an adult, that would be great! Also, it's lovely to hear of any other books they may be reading at home and we have put up a lovely reading display for the children to recommend their favourite books and authors, and share their reading journey.

myON is a new online library that we have invested in as a school! Your child's username and password is written in the back of their reading record book. It is a place to find lots of different books and also to complete projects set for homework.

The children will have weekly spellings to practise and we will be focusing on how they can transfer this vocabulary into their writing. They have books which they can take home to practise these, support with this would be great - thank you! Please could you ensure that the books come to school daily, as we use these regularly to practise spellings and keep their word lists for them to refer to.

Times Tables

We will be doing lots of time tables practise at school and any support that you can give at home would be fab. Here are a couple of great websites to practise times tables, with lots of online games and the children should also have their Times Tables Rockstars log-in's so that they can continue with that at home too. This will also be a regular part of their homework and I'll post the links on the homework page too.
