Sand Dollars (Year 4/5) 2019 - 2020
Welcome to Term 4 in Sand Dollars Class!
The children are taking an active part in our Anglo Saxon Theme.
Children must have a reusable water bottle in school every day. From this term I would ask that no child has a bottle of single use plastic for their water. Thin plastic is not durable enough for daily use and it makes a noise when constantly scrunched.
Please can you ensure your child has their PE kit in school at all times so that they can participate in all PE sessions on a Monday and Wednesday. We may also change the times or have other opportunuties arise where the children need to wear their PE kits so it is very important that they are in school all the time. We will also be continuing the Physical 15. Children will need their trainers and a spare pair of socks for this activity only if you feel they need them and they will be able to change back into their school shoes after the Physical 15.
Homework will be given out on a Monday and is due back on the following Monday. This term it focuses on an eco project to improve the world we live in.. The work will be spread over a few weeks. It will involve research and a making project on the last Monday.
Remember to stay safe when researching online!
It is important for the children to learn their times tables off by heart and this can easily be practised at home at least 3 times a week, alongside their regular reading. By the end of Year 4, the expectation is that the children know their times tables up to 12x12. The children now have their own login for TTrock Stars and can access their account at home. This is also an excellent website designed to help the children learn their times tables in a fun and engaging way, through games and activities.
Enjoy and have fun!
Reading and Spelling
Children are expected to read to an adult at home at least 3 times per week and their reading record should be signed. Books will only be changed following discussion with an adult. Children are encouraged to challenge themselves with their reading and become more aware of the types of book they like to read. We have also introduced a spelling book and we would like the children to practise their spellings at home at least 3 times per week too. The spelling book is also used daily at school so needs to come into school each day. I have also given the children a list of the spellings for this term.
