Seahorses (Year 1) 2020 - 2021
Welcome to Term 6!
Hello and welcome to term 6! Mrs Bulpitt, Mrs Thapa, Mrs Plumb and I are looking forward to an exciting final term with our Seahorses. Our topic this term is ‘Sun, Sea and Sand’ and this theme will be running through most of our subjects. The children will investigate what we like about seaside holidays today before taking a look back to Victorian seaside holidays, why they became popular and how they have changed since. They will think about the geographical features of the coast and oceans. Take a look at our learning journey to see what else they will be getting up to.
PE: PE will be on Monday and Wednesday afternoons this term. Please ensure that your child comes to school wearing their PE kit on these days. The PE kit is a school shirt, navy shorts and plimsoles or trainers. When the weather gets colder the children may need their joggers or sweatshirts to keep warm! The PE sports club will run on Thursdays after school so your child can come in their PE kit for this day if they are taking part.
Reading: Please could you listen to your child read as much a possible! We have changed the way we are approaching reading so that it is covid safe and the children have enough to read each week. Reading records will get changed every Monday (once the reading record has been signed by you). Your child will get three books for the week and a set of reading comprehension questions to discuss with an adult. We will also be sending home ‘Sammy the Seahorse’ with our 'Seahorse of the Week' each Friday. If you take Sammy home, could you read a story with him and then encourage your child to write or draw about the book they shared. This could include their favourite part or their favourite character. We will share what they have written with the class. Thank you!
Home learning: Phonics and Maths tasks will be sent home on Fridays to consolidate or extend their learning. Thank you for your support.
Water bottles and snacks: Please make sure your child brings a named water bottle to school every day. We will send them home to be washed and refilled each day. We have fruit to to give to the children at break, if they choose to bring in their own snack for break time it needs to be a healthy option.
Please let me know if you have any questions- I am always here for a chat.
Miss Gifford :-)
