Seahorses (Year 1) 2021 - 2022
Welcome to Term 6!
Hello and welcome to term 6! Mrs Bulpitt and I are looking forward to another fun term. Have a look at the Term 6 Newsletter to see an overview of the children's learning. Our Topic this term is 'Famous Queens.'
PE: PE will be on Monday and Wednesday afternoons this term. Please ensure that your child comes to school wearing their PE kit on these days. The PE kit is a school shirt, navy shorts and plimsoles or trainers.
Reading: We are trying to promote a love of reading in Seahorse class, but we need your help to do this! Your child will be sent home with a phonetically decodable book every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in their reading packet. This means your child should know all of the sounds in the book and should try to 'blend in their head' where possible. We base this on out regular phonics assessments, please speak to me if you feel the book level needs to be altered for your child. Please sign the reading record so that your child's book will be changed and leave any comments for us to respond to. Your child will also choose a book from our reading corner every day. This is a book for pleasure that should be shared with an adult as it may be above their reading level. Your child will not be able to choose a new book until they return the one they had previously. Please look after our books.
We will also be sending home ‘Sammy the Seahorse’ with our 'Seahorse of the Week' each Friday. If you take Sammy home, could you read a story with him and then encourage your child to write or draw about the book they shared. This could include their favourite part or their favourite character. We will share what they have written with the class. Your child can also take photos or draw/write about what they got up to with Sammy over the weekend. Thank you! We will also continue sending home 'Travelling Ted' with a child each week. Please take him on an adventure in the local area so the children can learn about the features of where they live.
Home learning: Phonics and Maths tasks will be sent home on Fridays to consolidate or extend their learning. Thank you for your support.
Water bottles and snacks: Please make sure your child brings a named water bottle to school every day. We will send them home to be washed and refilled each day. We have fruit to to give to the children at break, if they choose to bring in their own snack for break time it needs to be a healthy option.
I will be uploading photos throughout the year so remember to check the Gallery section (below) to see what the children have been up to.
Please let me know if you have any questions- I am always here for a chat or you can send me an email:
