Seahorses (Year 1) 2020 - 2021
Welcome to Term 1!
Hello and welcome to Term 2 in Seahorse Class! Mrs Bulpitt, Mrs Thapa and I are so excited to to start a new term with our Seahorses. Our History topic this term is all about the Gun Powder Plot- just in time for bonfire night! They will imagine and recreate the experiences of people involved through role play and their writing. Take a look at the Term 2 Learning Journey to see what else the children will be learning about.
PE- PE will be on Monday and Wednesday afternoons this term. Please ensure that your child comes to school wearing their PE kit on these days. The PE kit is a school shirt, navy shorts and plimsoles or trainers. When the weather gets colder the children may need their joggers or sweatshirts to keep warm! We will be trying to get outside for every session.
Reading: Please could you listen to your child read at home every night (if possible!). Once you have read with them, please could you sign their reading record so we know that they have read. Children are able to change their books once an adult has signed their reading record. We aim to change the books on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We will also be sending home ‘Sammy the Seahorse’ with one child every weekend. If you take Sammy home could you please read a story with him and then encourage your child to write or draw about the book they shared. This could include their favourite part or their favourite character. We will share what they have written with the class. Thank you!
Home learning: I will send the children home with phonics homework every friday. Please can they practice reading and writing the sounds. I will also begin sending home maths activities to extend or consolidate their learning, I will put them in the reading packet. Thank you for your support.
Water Bottles: This year, to ensure that the water bottles are kept clean, we are asking children to take them home at the end of every day to be washed and refilled with water, ready for the next day. There is plenty of water available at school as well, in case they need to fill them again throughout the day.
I am really excited to watch the children continue to progress this term. Please let me know if you have any questions- I am always here for a chat.
