Starfish (Reception) 2021 - 2022

Everything You Need to Know About Starfish | Tynemouth Aquarium                            9 Cool Facts About Starfish

Welcome all Starfish and their families.

Throughout the year the children will be developing their skills and knowledge through the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. This is divided into two interconnected areas; the Prime and the Specific. The Prime areas of learning are Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language and Physical Development. The Specific areas of learning are Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and the Expressive Arts and Design.

Observing children’s interests is the basis for planning topic themes as this is how young children learn best, through activities that they can make sense of and be inspired by to be curious investigators. This is balanced with teacher directed  topic introductions, such as  celebrations, traditional tales, people who help us. This widens children’s knowledge of their own immediate world.

                                                                             Starfish Term 6  Newsletter

Hello and welcome to Term 6, Where did this year go!!! I honestly can't believe we only have one term left before the super Starfish become Seahorses.

With the warmer weather you may like to send your child to school with some suncream. This needs to be in a named bottle and the children need to be able to apply the cream themselves ( please practise this at home as it really does sting if they get it in their eyes)

 Water bottles/snacks

Please make sure your child brings a named water bottle to school every day. We will send them home to be washed and refilled each day. At snack time your child will be given the option of having a piece of fruit/ vegetable. If you would like to provide your child with a snack from home this also needs to be fruit or vege.

PE  ( Sports Day 4th July )

This Term PE lessons will be taught on a Wednesday by myself ( I am sure Duck, Duck, Goose will be part of every cool down as it is still a firm favourite with the Starfish) We will be practising lots of different races and activities so we are ready and confident for Sports Week.

On the 3 first Thursdays of Term 6, the Starfish will be developing their cheerleading skills. Please send your child to school in sports clothes on these days.

Starfish Forest School

The Children will continue their Forest school Learning  During Term 6 on a  Tuesday afternoon. Please continue to send your child to school in suitable  warm clothing (non-Uniform)  It does get very cold in the forest even on a dry sunny day. A long sleeve top, bottoms, hat, scarf etc  would be great due to the amount of nettles in the forest. Also a pair of wellies or alternative shoes for the children to change into would be fantastic, especially when we are back in the class

The Starfish have an extra session on Monday 13th June ( external provider) I have asked for the children to take part in some pond dipping activities

Reading books

The children will be continuing to bring home 2 types of reading books. The children will continue to choose a story book to share with parents each evening. It is hoped that this book will encourage a love of reading. Please do talk to your child about the story to help widen their vocabulary.  They will also have their reading book which is matched to their sound knowledge and ability to blend. These books will be changed on a Monday and Thursday if the reading record has been signed.

 Home Learning

Children will continue to bring home their Home Learning book on a Friday. This will contain both an English and Math focus activity. The English focus  will be a writing activity to encourage independent writing of a sentence, which contains a capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop. The Math activity will be  linked to the class Math programme which is consolodating the children's understanding of number so they meet the expected requirments of the Reception Year.  Please return this to school by Wednesday

 School trip

On the 7th July the Starfish Class will be visiting Dover Castle with the Year 1 and 2 children. Further information will follow nearer the time along with details of a trip to the beach and a trip to the park ( weather dependent)
