Sycamore Class (Year 1) 2022 - 2023

Welcome to Term 5!

Welcome to term 5 of year 1 in Sycamore class! We hope you are all feeling excited for this term.

If you are new to Guston school we are delighted for you to become a part of our school community. We can’t wait to support you all in your transition into year 1 and welcome you into our new class. Please see our newsletter below full of all the exciting things we will be learning over this next term and keep an eye on our website for photos of our learning throughout the term.

Miss Gower and Miss Peacock

P.E

This term our P.E days will be Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with our Wednesday session continuing to be provided by venture sports. Please send your child into school in their P.E kit on these days.

Reading

We love reading in Sycamore class and would love for you to help support us in our reading journey! Each child will be sent home with a reading book every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in their reading packet. This will be a book they will be able to read independently using their assessed phonics knowledge and we want to encourage them to 'blend in their head' when possible. We will change the books when they have been read so please remember to write in their reading record to ensure their books are changed. Each child will also choose a picture book they can share with an adult from our reading corner every day for you to read to them and encourage their joy of reading. Once they return that book they can then choose another. 

Water bottles and snacks

Please make sure children have named water bottles in school every day. We will send them home each day to be washed and refilled. Children will all be provided with fruit at snack time, however if you wish you can provide them with a healthy snack from home.

Home learning 

We will send home maths and phonics learning on Fridays to help children consolidate their learning. Please practice any of the new phonemes sent home to help your childs reading develop. To practice learning the 2, 5 and 10 times tables your children can use the Times Table rockstars online game using their school log in. As always we appreciate your support!
