Information for Service Families

Introduction

Guston Church of England Primary School work to ensure the needs of its military children are met. We would urge any military family wishing support to contact the school directly. Below are a number of useful links for services.

We recognise that the mobility of children leaves them vulnerable in education and work closely with other schools and partner agencies to minimise the unavoidable disruption from relocation. We seek to:

  • Assess children quickly on arrival
  • Establish contact with previous settings if needs are anticipated before arrival
  • Complete PIP (Pupil Information Profiles) on transfer
  • Use a buddying system for children to quickly settle in class
  • Have a special adult that the child can talk to directly

Children’s Education Advisory Service

Overview

When children of service parents move frequently from one school to another or between different educational systems obtaining appropriate provision can be complex.

We are a tri-service organisation funded by the Ministry of Defence (MOD), established to provide information and support to service families and eligible MOD civilians on all aspects of the education of their children in the UK and overseas. This includes supporting parents at meetings with schools, local authorities, and tribunals.

We are a small office with a dedicated team, including 4 Parent Support Officers who have a background in Education. We have considerable experience of advising service parents on a wide range of issues regarding service children’s education
